Nottingham Results 2011

With 73 boaters on the water the Nottingham and series final is one of our biggest events for a long time - thank you everyone for turning out and making it such a great day.

We spent the morning on the water working on our moves.  Quick lunch watching the squirt boaters complete, then back on the water for the YFS main competition.  Age group paddlers on the top wave 1st run, twin wave 2nd run.  Novice paddlers down towards the bottom of the course.  We also have Eric Jackson on hand to judge the 'Impress EJ' competition!  Finally a catwheelathon Smile

Finally after a bit of a wait the results were ready for the Nottingham event and Overall Series Final.  All winners of the series final (sponsored and unsponsored) took away a trophy which is theirs to keep.  Prizes from our sponsors then were given out to the top 3 places for the unsponsored paddlers.  Thanks, Palm, Dagger, Square Rock, Jackson Kayaks, Duem, Desperate Measures and Big Dog for donating the prizes.

The winning club this year goes to Sudbury Canoe Club - well done.  They get the 'big paddle' trophy which will be engraved and returned next years competition.

We have also been donated a sum of money which is going towards a coaching weekend  with our own World Champion PRINGLE!  The winners of this award are all up and coming paddlers who have potential to make the GB team.

Washburn Results 2011

The sun was shining which makes a nice change for a release at the Washburn.  A big thank you must go to Lower Wharfe Canoe Club for letting us share their general release day.  Big thumbs up from everyone at YFS for the catering tent.

We had 32 paddlers on the water, and lots of experienced adults on hand to offer help and advise on river running techniques as well as how to throw some excellent freestyle moves.

Our prizes and medals were given out by Great Britain’s very own newly crowned Freestyle World Champion – PRINGLE!  We had some great T-Shirts provided to us as spot prizes for effort and entertainment from our new sponser – Duem.

Thanks again to all our sponsors, who without the event wouldn’t run.  Thanks, Palm, Square Rock, Dagger, Big Dog, Jackson, Duem, DM’s & Kayko Jacko.

Nene Results 2011

With 68 boaters on the water, the Nene Youth Freestyle turned out to be one of the largest Youth Freestyle's in a while. It was great to see so many new boaters join us for the first time. This made for a great novice competition and lots of spot prizes for giving it a go and providing the judges with lots of entertainment Smile

The club trophy is all to play for with only 4 points separating the top 4 clubs of last years winner - North Avon, followed by Sudbury, Milton Keynes and Holme Pierrepont. All clubs still have everything to play for, so get your fellow youth canoe club members to come down and have a go. Remember even entering as a novice will gain you a point towards the club total.

The results show quite a few n/a (not applicable) against boaters names (see end of page 2). If anyone against n/a is affiliated to a club, please let me know (e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) and I will update the results.

Thank you to all our sponsors for supporting us with their time and prizes. Thank also to all the parents and guardians for bringing you all along to the day.

Lea Valley White Water Demo Event

On Tuesday 19th April we were invited to stage a Youth Freestyle demonstration event at the brand new Lea Valley White Water centre, which is yet to open to the public.

We would have loved to invite you all but due to a strict limit of 30 paddlers we had to limit invitations to a cross section of previous YFS competitors.

The event was held on the legacy loop and sported a selection of interesting features. The sun shone and the water was blue, clear and inviting. The day started with a practice session and the reason for the 30 limit soon became apparent as all the paddlers hit the features at the same time! After a packed lunch, kindly supplied by the centre, the competition proper began - one run on each of 2 features.  Although the features were a little shallow a lot of moves were possible for the skilled paddlers.
