Paddling Workshops

The morning of each event will consist of Youth Freestylers attending paddling workshops.  The workshops will be run by past and present members of the GB team and other experienced freestyle kayakers.

Competition

The competition will run in the afternoon, the logistics of which (which features, how many runs etc.) will be confirmed on the day of each event.  The competition will run in 5 groups.

  • 18 and under boys
  • 15 and under boys
  • 12 and under boys
  • Girls (all ages)
  • Novice

In 2009 we introduced the Novice category, which went down rather well so we are continuing with this for 2010.  If you are not too confident about entering the main competition in your age group, then you can opt to enter the novice competition.  The only rules we have around the novice event, is that once you have come in the top 3 – that’s it – time to move up to the main competition!  Also please note that any points gained from the novice competition cannot go forward to the overall series ranking.

Competition Rules and Scoring

The rules for the main (age group) Youth Freestyle Competition are a simplified version of the international rules that are used at national and international events around the world. More information about these can the found at the main UK Freestyle web site and Youth Freestyle Competition Scoring.

At the end of each event we will announce the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place paddlers for all 5 categories.  Spot prizes (when available) will be given for entertainment and for those who have really given it a go.

We should get everyone’s results up on the website within 7 days of the event.

Overall Series Ranking

At the final event in Nottingham we will announce the Overall Series winners for each of the age groups.  The Series Ranking is taken from the best 3 out of the 5 event results (excludes novice competition) will go towards a series ranking.

Series Rankings - How is it worked out?

Since it is possible to score more points at certain events than others, use ranking scores based on a Formula 1 points system. You will score a ranking for each event you go to, but you will need to enter at least 3 events to qualify for an end of series position.

Points are awarded for your position within your age group.  Please note that results in the Novice section do not go forward to Series Ranking.

  • 1st - 10 points
  • 2nd - 9 points
  • 3rd - 8 points
  • 4th - 7 points
  • 5th - 6 points
  • 6th - 5 points
  • 7th - 4 points
  • 8th - 3 points
  • 9th - 2 points
  • 10th - 1 point
  • 11th - 1 point
  • 12th - 1 point and so on

Where you have entered more all 3 events your lowest score(s) is (are) discarded. Where there is a tie in the overall points achieved.  The highest individual event will take president. Points awarded for places takes president over actual scores in events.

Youth Freestyle Club Trophy

As each youth freestyler enters on-line or through the post, they need to show which canoe club they belong to.  All points (see series ranking points system above) across all events will be added to your clubs ongoing total.  At the end of the series, the club with the most points will walk away with the Youth Freestyle Club Trophy!

After each event, the website will up updated to show the league order, so we can see which clubs are up for walking away with the trophy

A few small rules:

  • Each youth freestyler can only represent one club for the duration of the year.  So if you happen to be a member of two clubs, you just have to nominate one club.
  • Novice entries will score 1 point just for giving it a go.
